What Parents Say About Us?
We are parents of C.V.Harshita of STD VIII- A and C.V.Lakshan of STD III-A. We would like to thank the management and staff of DAV, Gill Nagar for continuous learning happening during this pandemic situation. We feel as if our children are there in the school, though they are at home and we never felt that they are missing their education at this pandemic too. The teachers are really taking care of each and every student wonderfully. Though this pandemic has given many problems, still it has given the insight about the student-teacher relationship in front of our eyes, it is awesome!! It made us remember our good old school days again which we are missing even at this age. Thank you.

I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks and gratitude to the teachers who have helped my son to be a better student and face the world with confidence and to be a good citizen of our country. During this pandemic period the entire academic years, (2020-2021, 2021-2022) eleventh standard and twelfth standard were done through online which was a huge challenge. Being at home we were able to witness the way the classes are conducted. Teachers made the students comfortable conducting the classes in a smooth manner. They motivated the students continuously and channelized them in a proper manner. If not for their relentless focus on students and immense patience they showed, Harsha would have faced challenges in completing the twelfth standard. Their immense guidance helped him a lot to complete the academic year successfully. Their feedback was much needed and mentoring helped him a lot at this stage in his life. It boosted his ability to cope up with the syllabus and shifted his attitude towards learning. Hats off to the teachers for grooming and carving him to be a good student and human being! Thank you is insufficient to the entire D.A.V. Management and Faculties who were instrumental in making him a good student and our special mention to the faculties who handled him from Kindergarten to twelfth standard. It would not be apt to end this small thank you note if we missed to mention the Principal, Nandhini madam who had hand-held Harsha during his tough time in tenth standard. We wish all the faculties to have a healthy, happy and prosperous life. We pray to God Almighty to bless all the faculty members.
Thank you

Respected Madam,
I write this congratulatory note in appreciation of all the teachers who have taken online and offline classes for the academic year 2020-21. There is all round praise from us to all the teachers for their continuous support and help in the online classes. DAV group of schools have lived to its reputation of being one of the finest schools in Chennai. Students have enthusiastically attended all the classes online and viewed the recorded videos where in the entire year passed off very well without any glitches. The credit goes to the entire teaching staff and technical staff who have passionately performed their duties. As the pandemic is failing to relent, the next academic year is also likely to take place in online mode. We look forward for the continuous performance and involvement of teachers and students in the online mode of teaching and learning. I also like to thank the Management of the school for seamlessly completing the academic year 2020-21. I also thank all the teachers for their great efforts.
Finally,

Respected Principal, Headmistress and Teachers,
we would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank each and every teacher of D.A.V. Gill Nagar for the efforts taken during these unprecedented times to ensure the students are not missing out on their academics. We would like to specifically call out and acknowledge the outstanding and persistent efforts of all Subject Teachers. We are amazed by the commitment and determination of all the teachers in ensuring the students are “Equipped to Learn”. We salute the patience of the teachers and the extra mile they have travelled to ensure each student gets the right attention. We are sure this has taken a toll on the Teachers more than the Students and Parents to ensure there was a seamless transition from Physical classrooms to Virtual classrooms.
D.A.V. Gill Nagar and its teachers are a class apart for the following reasons:
1.Ensured the right communication at the right time through WhatsApp, E-mails,
2.Ensured the right online tools and Apps were researched and finalised,
3.Ensured the schedules are spread out with adequate breaks,
4.Ensured prayer, Art, Music, Yoga classes are also given their due importance.
Big Kudos to all the Teachers, the Principal and the Headmistress who have been guiding them.
THANK YOU!!!

We, Lokesh and Swathi, parents of M Arrjun Rao III B and M Arrya Rao LKG A are very much thankful to all of you for the holistic development of our children. We are glad to show our small “Token of Appreciation” to the school.
D.A.V. Gill Nagar is a great school as it provides good academics and co-curricular activities. Our sons have learnt many good skills and discipline from the school. We are happy to have such a wonderful principal, headmistress, teachers and all other staff. In this pandemic situation, despite so many challenges, D.A.V. Gill Nagar has come out with a good quality of teaching. Though the classes are conducted online, the school has created an atmosphere to keep the children’s learning more innovative and interesting. The entire students of D.A.V. Gill Nagar look very smart, happy and self-confident. The teachers are doing an excellent job. The management is very understanding and supportive. Both my kids are doing well in their studies and of course, it’s all because of their teachers. We would surely recommend this lovely school to other parents. Apart from all this the school has an excellent infrastructure like enough lighting, proper ventilation in each classroom, libraries, well-maintained toilets, spacious playground, sinks and drinking water facilities just outside the classroom. We once again like to appreciate your hard work and efforts in keeping our children happy. Thank you so much and keep the good work going.

All faculties are very well qualified and trained. Teachers train all the students by conducting virtual seminars, test, viva etc... Each and every topic is very well discussed with the students, and there is a frequent monitoring of learning and teaching. The presentations are well drafted and every small point has been covered to ensure that the complete concept is clearly understood by children. They also conduct tests after completing each chapter which is really helpful for the students to cope up. Even through virtual classes teachers make sure that all the students complete their classwork as well as assignment. They send national monthly magazine which is very informative for the students. They even conducted virtual career counselling for all the departments and frequent parents' meeting. The principal will monitor each and every student’s academic performance and special classes are conducted based on their performance. The school will follow spiritual mantras and conduct havan every Friday which gives good vibration to the students. Most importantly, they give priority to discipline and studies. They conduct curricular activities which take place along with the main subject. The stupendous amount of effort and dedication in organizing online classes is greatly appreciated.

Myself, D.Sujatha, parent of D.Rohan VIII-A. I am a homemaker. I feel very proud to be a part of D.A.V. Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Gill Nagar. Previously, my elder son D.Manoj completed his schooling from D.A.V. Gill Nagar in the academic year 2018-2019. D.A.V. is a place where they provide students knowledge with moral values. They train students in such a way they become a complete individual to compete in the challenging society. Besides academics, students are encouraged to develop their extra-curricular skills by making them participate in various competitions. From this year, they planned to conduct extra classes related to General knowledge, Logical Mathematics, Speaking etc..., to sharpen the various interests of students apart from academics. These classes make the students utilize their time in the lockdown in developing skills. Because skills are what most are demanded in any field. The management is good, they consider the grievances of the parents and try to take steps to implement at the earliest. They encourage students to participate in various sports such as volleyball, chess, badminton, throw ball, etc., and our school won many state level and national level trophies. The teaching is great as the teachers make the students understand the concepts in depth. They also provide weekly assignments to test the student’s understanding. They conduct weekly havan imparting vedic knowledge to all students emphasizing it’s importance. By joining D.A.V., the students become unique and pass out with flying colours.

I am proud to say that my daughter is studying in D.A.V. school. My daughter has advantage over other school students in having nice communicative skills, good social behaviour, etc. This school has great infrastructure and faculties. The teachers are well-trained and experienced. They are very much interactive with students and also give a lot of individual attention to each and every student. They also conduct many extra-curricular activities among students like interschool quiz/music/art competition, etc,. Overall, I’m glad that I have chosen the right place for my daughter’s education.

D.A.V. School is a fantastic school. Its infrastructure looks pretty good. The school building is very spacious. The school teachers are well educated as well as experienced. The teachers are caring and very kind to all. The D.A.V. group of schools are one of the best schools in scoring higher results in the 10th and 12th standard board examination. The school motivates the students to concentrate on their studies. The school is very determined in improving students in extra curricular activities like volleyball, throw ball, cricket, etc,. D.A.V. is not only providing opportunities in sports but also in acknowledging Vedic Maths , art of communication, MS-Office Essentials, etc,. Even in this pandemic circumstance, the students are equipped through online sessions for their academic performance. The school has a huge playground where the students can play various outdoor games. They perform havan once a week. They celebrate all national functions at the school with great pomp and show. So my daughter feels proud to be a Davian.

Online classes are very well organized and conducted by the D.A.V. Gill Nagar teachers. My ward finds the online classes very much interesting and productive. The teachers have ensured that every student understands the concepts by repeating them, asking questions and clarifying the student's doubts in the same way as teaching face to face at school. They are patient in making the kids understand the topic very clearly. The teachers are very punctual for the classes. They are also unbiased and include everyone in the discussion in classes. All the classwork and homework submitted online by the children are promptly corrected and evaluated. My daughter enjoys the extra-curricular activities too.

I just wanted to let know that you all have been doing a really great job… proving time and again how much dedicated, selfless and sincere you all are in shaping up our children’s future. Both my daughters are studying in this esteemed school … as a parent, I have been seeing the transformation and progress in our kids academics, right from day one we led them into your premises holding their little fingers with utmost joy and pride. Till date, we continue to have the same feeling towards your school. Given my job nature and location, I never really had an opportunity to interact in person with you all to express my gratitude and now thanks to Corona, one really doesn’t know when that situation would come in this changed world scenario. Hats off to the punctuality of teachers even for online classes, providing positive attention and praising kids whenever they demonstrate self-discipline,your expertise in teaching and the vast subject knowledge you possess have put our mind at ease, identifying the right skills and providing opportunity to develop the same, maintaining friendly relationship with kids taking utmost care in their well-being, monthly parents-teachers con-calls, addressing concerns, I am happy that the management is also willing to listen to parents paving way for a healthy two-way interactions, kudos to the Extra-curricular activities on offer keeping the kids engaged – be it, sports, singing, competitions etc etc, you are making a big impact in our kids life, boosting their self-confidence level at an all-time high and thank you for being patient throughout this pandemic and taking kids along, it means a lot!

My association with D.A.V has been close to two decades as my elder son is also an alumni of D.A.V ,Gill nagar. I am thankful to the management for having appointed excellent faculty . They have been doing a wonderful job all these years and now due to pandemic we parents got an opportunity to perceive their efforts as classes are online .There is an excellent opportunity for sports enthusiasts and a lot of co- curricular activities are held from time to time. However those who wish to join D.A.V have to be mentally prepared to put in 100% dedication and hard work as only the fittest can survive the pressure and competition .I would suggest to have at least one
parent teacher meeting at the end of
every term for all the students and reduce the number of tests if possible.

Student's Speak:
Namasthe!
“The greatest aim of education is not knowledge
but action, this action is implemented
through Extracurricular activities ”
Learning is not just reading and gaining knowledge from the text books, it is a motivation for the students to explore themselves in areas depending upon their interest, skills and talent. A person with both theoretical as well as practical knowledge is said to be a completely educated person.
Extracurricular activities are the openings for the reinforcement of the lessons learnt in the classroom offering students the opportunity to apply academic skills in the real world context.
My school D.A.V bags a good name not only in academics but also in extracurricular activities. The extracurricular activities in D.A.V include almost all the sports activities, music, dance, debates, public speaking, essay writing, etc. The students from classes 1-12 are divided into 4 houses named after the holy rivers of our country: Ganga, Kaveri, Narmada and Krishna. Sports weeks are organized, class monitors and prefects are appointed for the smooth functioning of the activities. Students are motivated to take part in all kinds of activities.
I am glad that I have participated in most of the activities and have gained experience and learned lessons from my failures. It made me to be open minded and think outside of the box. I realized the fact that “Failure is an opportunity to begin again more intelligently”. Being a part in the extracurricular activities taught me to face both failure and success with a smile. Every failure of mine was a forward push given to me to do better in my next competitions. Being a very shy and a person full of stage fear, taking part in debates and public speaking made me to overcome those pullbacks and helped to increase my confidence levels. “One should not worry about failure ,he must worry about chances he missed when he doesn’t even try ”. These activities are an effort towards developing the potential of the individuals , a holistic and integrated manner to produce individuals who are intellectually, spiritually, emotionally and physically balanced and harmonious based on a firm belief in the truth and discipline. Extracurricular activities help students to be courageous and posses clear vision and focus thereby helps to improve their academic scores too! These knowledgeable and competent beings posses high moral standards and are responsible and capable of achieving a great extent of personal well-being and thereby plays a major role in the progress of the family, the society and thereby paves the way to the progress of the nation. Skills such as communication, team work, organization, problem solving and time management improved in me. Taking part in the cultural programs, was a boon for me to meet new people with different ideologies. I feel very lucky and proud to be a D.A.Vian…Once you are a D.A.Vian.. You are a D.A.Vian forever.
Thank you.
Shreya .S.G (XII- B)Batch(2020-2021) Hear From Our Alumni:
Prior to my advent into D.A.V., Gill Nagar, all I knew was that it was synonymous with a holistic development of the students. We had seen glimpses of the prowess of D.A.Vians in several cultural and sports events, apart from the regular academic success achieved by them. But when I entered D.A.V, I realized that it not only developed me academically, but taught me ways to overcome issues and to plan for whatever situations I would face. The teachers there had always been a constant source of support to me throughout my schooling in D.A.V and after that too. More than teachers, they were our friends and guided as our north star in all situations. The whole environment was conducive not only for studies, but for over-all development. Probably one thing that distinguishes D.A.V from others is the fact that they as an institution are ready to change and adapt themselves with time and align themselves in such a way that the students are always benefitted at any cost, be it by keeping sports festival or regular assessments. If asked what would be the main thing that D.A.V has helped me through my undergraduate career, it is the belief that D.A.V instills in its pupils that success is multivariate, has no specific definition and very much achievable by everyone.

As I begin to reminisce about my school days and start to pen my thoughts, Dr. Seuss quote lingers in my head - “Sometimes you will never know the value of a moment until it becomes a memory.”
While it has been more than a decade since I passed out of D.A.V Gill Nagar, looking back at those formative years; I come to realize how the values D.A.V imparted in me had a profound effect on my career. I have had many firsts at D.A.V – my first article in a magazine (Darpan), my first election for Assistant School Pupil Leader, and many more. A school article may seem inconsequential in the real world, but it does pave the way for bigger things in life. The article that day did make me confident of my writing abilities, which further enabled me to start a blog in my first year of college (www.ramthilakceo.com). I have held on to that habit of writing ever since and this ability to express myself confidently through words has allowed me to have a multi-faceted career.
I currently work in the area of Applied Data Science helping organizations unlock the true “value” of data using artificial intelligence algorithms. Data Science was unheard of during my school days and it was far from being a career choice. So, if you’re a student now at DAV, my two cents will be what Steve Jobs said in his Stanford Commencement Address – “You can't connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. Therefore, you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something — your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever.”
Another aspect about D.A.V that helped me in my career was how they gave “equal” importance to all subjects you would learn, unlike some schools that gave undue importance to “cut-off” subjects. The reason I mention this is because day-in & day-out, I see so many qualified engineers unable to communicate effectively. They are great individual contributors but struggle to work well in a team – which is an understated skill set in the corporate world. Soft skills like communication, collaboration and teamwork are best learnt early in your life and whatever extra-curricular I had at D.A.V did help me chisel my soft skills.
I would like to finish by saying that just three words “Trust the process”. Therefore, all you need to do to trust the selfless teachers who always go an extra mile to do the best for you.

I Capt. Noor Ahmed am from 1999-2001 batch and now an AGM in a Multibillion Dollar MNC Head Quartered in Copenhagen, Denmark. At present I am based out of Mumbai. I lead and support teams in more than 100 countries.
At the age of 21 I started drawing a 6 figure salary, at age of 25, became a Master Mariner, at 26, was appointed as external examiner for Madras university and Vels university, and at the age of 29, commanded My first ship and earned the title Captain, by 30, had set my foot or rather laid my eyes on more than 30 countries. Business Visit of course. All my Passports collectively appear thicker than an encyclopedia.
Obviously, these are the cool facts to make someone lift eyebrows and expand pupil. But this does not define what I am. It is the impact that I leave in my society with my contribution. It is not what is gained but what I give back.
The foundation of structured principle in my life is established through Maata, Pita, Guru, Deivam. It’s no surprise fact that School plays a major role in building the nation by shaping future of students as stated by Bharat Ratna Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam. When I shared my first achievement of a six-figure salary to my school principal the very next thing she asked me was how much of it is going to the society? Although it pinched me these are the values I absorbed from my school. In my different stages of life, I have been motivated by my school and learnt how to lead a useful life.
My relationship with DAV gill nagar started in 1999 and I am from the very first batch of the school. Our then school Principal Smt. Vasantha Balasubramaniyam always believed firmly in disciplining the students.
One often takes the road and makes way in the direction already lead by successful people. This is where my school differed. My school shattered all stereotyping mindset and taught me how to not break rules but break boundaries to scope in more.
I had a very rare score card as I was simply Jack of all trades but master of none. In simple words my school gripped my hand and channelised my focus and potential. My hand was gripped firmly all the way until I set off in the right trajectory. With the hand grip that I felt all along and the push (Chalaang in hindi) I got from that hand the momentum of which is still making acceleration.
The benefit of a holistic growth that I gained from my school and teachers is what has made me into what I am today.
As an Alumni I would like to tell my juniors in school, ‘The Fathoms of fear is far more gruesome than reality itself’.
Losing fear at the right stage is the best way of upbringing your skillset.
Capt. Noor Ahmed Ibrahim
